Letter to WSJ

The Wall Street Journal ran my letter last Friday:

Mr. Kann's essay had many fine observations and suggestions. However, I believe he missed a fundamental point. He did identify "pack journalism" but failed to clearly identify the inherent problems therein -- journalists write to impress one another. This inevitable tendency arises from the reward/punishment environment of the newsroom. Personal and professional accolades, career advancement, prestige and possible fame await those who successfully advocate the dominant media agendas (same-sex marriage, racial preferences, egalitarianism, anti-war, etc.). Ostracism awaits those who dare swim against this awesome tide.
